I cannot overstate the pivotal role that you have played over the years:more than learning to play an instrument, she has you to thank for helping to develop the poise and flair. I honestly believe that you have motivated her to become a life long flautist.

“The improvement in (child’s) confidence and technical ability is all down to you and how much she enjoys her lessons, so thank you very much. You encourage, without pushing her and it is such a fine line to get right – you have achieved the perfect balance with my daughter and it is very much appreciated.

“I love playing the flute. It is down to your patient and dedicated teaching that I achieved my grade 8 distinction. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if you hadn’t helped me embark on my musical journey, and for that, and so much more, I am eternally grateful.”
Hazel, 18
“Gwen started teaching flute to my daughter when she was 9. Over the last two years, the weekly lessons have seen (my child) develop in both confidence and skill. Gwen has provided lots of encouragement, realistic targets and imaginative pieces for her to play. The feedback she provides each week is clear and easy for children to act upon. The flute has become a regular sound at home! My daughter has begun taking her ABRSM exams and Gwen has prepared her for these in a calm and supportive manner, providing her with the confidence to approach an exam in a relaxed but focused manner. Gwen’s communication with parents is regular and helps keep us up-to-date with (my child’s) progress. Her weekly flute lessons are a really enjoyable part of her life now and we are delighted with all that has been accomplished.”
Parent
“Gwen is consistently patient, enthusiastic and encouraging as a teacher, whilst always making sure that difficulties are worked on. (My child) has never felt demoralised or as though the weekly challenge is too much, and after 5 years still loves playing the flute – surely the best recommendation for a teacher? Gwen gets the best out of her and we can see the consistent improvement. The lesson notes are a useful way of keeping an eye on what’s required for practice, and Gwen is very good at responding to any questions I have. I highly recommend her!”

“Gwen is always very friendly and understanding. She challenges me and knows what I’m capable of. She never pressurised me but I get stretched when I need too. I really look forward to catching up with her each week and playing our flutes together”
Emilia, age 12

“I’d like to thank you for helping me achieve everything that I ever wanted to achieve with the flute, making every lesson the highlight of my week and most of all introducing me to a passion that will last a whole lifetime.”
Nicola, age 18
“My guide through all the notes that Mozart & Telemann decided to throw at the page! You have been a constant source of inspiration to me.”
Elizabeth, age 17
“Not everyone gets exceptional tuition from their instrumental teacher. My daughter is a lucky girl!”

Ms Kelso has been teaching me since I was so small that I could barely hold a flute and has supported me from my first note to grade 7! She is an inspirational teacher and does her best to accommodate every single pupil’s schedule. She puts her heart and soul into her work and you couldn’t hope for a better, more enthusiastic teacher.
